Vegan "Egg" Wash

This “egg” wash is absolutely perfect for all things baked — whether that be sweet treats or savory pockets of goodness (i.e. puff pastries, empanadas, hot pockets, etc.), this is a recipe I’ve created using what I’ve learned over the years I’ve been vegan.

Why use a vegan “egg” wash?

The plant milk will make your baked goods brown and the agave (with the help of binding of the flax to keep the milk/agave on the baked good) will make them have a slightly shiny coating.

Why not use oil or melted vegan butter?

You can definitely use either oil or melted vegan butter on many baked goods and it should brown them decently, but it may not give the baked goods that shine that you’re looking for.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup plant milk (unsweetened & original)
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • 1/2 tsp agave

Instructions

  1. Whisk ingredients in a small bowl. Let sit for 10-15 minutes or until it thickens. Use a pastry brush to coat baked goods before placing in the oven.

Notes

Make this while preparing your baked goods so that it thickens by the time you need to use it.
